Did you know that of the 400,000 loans approved by the FHA in our area from 1962-67, only 3% went to African Americans? Or that of the 70,000 new homes built in the St. Louis area from 1947 to 1952, only 35 were available to people of color? Of that the FHA’s Underwriting Manual mandated that funding ofr large subdivisions go exclusively to those that were whites-only?
