This summer's classes are:

  • The Prophet Elisha and the Life of Christ (taught by Kati Babcock) - The book of Kings was written to a people in exile, a people who felt hopeless and were questioning whether God really keeps His promises. In the middle of Kings, we find the stories of Elisha, purposefully placed there to demonstrate God's love and faithfulness. Elisha shows us what the life of faith looks life. His was a ministry of reconciliation and healing. He compassionately and graciously met the needs of struggling people. In this way, Elisha's life anticipates the life of Christ. This class will explore what Elisha teaches us about Jesus and the heart of God. What does it mean to live for God in a culture steeped in sin? And, how might God be calling us to compassionately meet the needs of people who have rejected Him?

  • Church History III: Leading to Reform, 1054-1648 (taught by Joel Waymack) - Were the Middle Ages and the church during that period good or bad? How did the Crusades impact the life of the church? What led to the Reformation, and why was it important? During this class we will explore these questions and see how God worked in and through his people during a time of great change, both in the world and within his Church.

  • The Parables of Jesus (taught by Michael Durso) - A third of Jesus' recorded teaching is in the form of parables, yet they remain mysterious to many of us. Are they allegories, or not? If they are, how do we know what they mean? Is there one point or many? Do they stand alone or are they connected to the surrounding stories? Close attention will be paid to the Kingdom parables in Mathew and the discipleship parables in Luke as we become better equipped for reading (and hearing) the parables. You are invited to listen more closely to the message of Jesus' teaching by better understanding His method.
